 ICE JACKS FINISH 6th IN NATION !!!


The Ice Jacks qualified for the national tournament for the second straight season. NAU won a tough regional championship in Oakland, California with wins over Sacramento State 11-1 and UC San Diego 6-5.


The boys went to Rochester, Minnesota as the #3 seed in the West. Their first game was against national power Northwood of Michigan. After trailing 2-0 in the third period the Ice Jacks scored twice to tie the game and send it to overtime. After overtime the game went to a shootout.  The Ice Jacks 6th shooter Michael Sounhein, scored to give the Ice Jacks the victory.

NAU lost the quarterfinal game 6-3 to eventual Division III Champion California of Pennsylvania. The top line of  Sophomore Dillon Shaffer, Freshman Barrett Buckowich and Freshman Ben Jordan along with goalie Nate Baier were solid for the Jacks. NAU then won an overtime game 5-4 after blowing a big lead. Kevin Ingram scored in overtime.

The Ice Jacks were short handed. Wich several injuries in the last game NAU skated with 12 players and lost to #1 seed in the North, Hope College of Michigan 4-1. That left the Ice Jacks 6th in the nation.

The Ice Jacks are looking for experienced players for this year's team. If you have any question regarding the hockey team please call A J Fairchild at 602-639-3000. A Team meeting is planned for August 28th, 2008 in the Student Center at 6:00 PM. All interested players must attend.

Tryouts for the team will be September Wednesday 3rd at 9:00 PM, Friday the 5th at 8:15 PM and Saturday 6th at 4:30 PM at the J. Lively Ice Rink in Flagstaff. Student participation for the season will be $1500.00 per player. There will also be several team fund raising group opportunities as well to pay expenses.
